Itinerary
Under the direction of Peter Gelb, the Metropolitan Opera is embarking on a new golden age with the world’s finest singers flocking to New York every season to perform on its distinguished stage. The high definition live broadcasts to cinemas around the world have brought new audiences to its productions but nothing, of course, can compare with the real thing. Three performances together with visits to the city’s major museums and galleries combine to create a perfect cultural experience.
The tour includes a visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to discover some of its recently-opened, impressive galleries such as the HJ Heinz Gallery where the Met’s collection of French paintings now hangs. You will go to the Frick Collection to see the industrialist Henry J Frick’s art collection, displayed in the elegant Beaux Arts mansion where he lived. At MoMa you enjoy one of the world’s greatest collections of modern art in an equally stunning building and we will make the journey to The Cloisters, an outpost of the Met overlooking the Hudson, to see the spectacular collection of European mediaeval art and architecture. There will also be a backstage tour of the Met which will introduce you to the intricate workings of one of the world’s busiest, biggest and best opera houses.
