Looking up at the myriad of stars and galaxies from the Thar Desert is a very special experience. Much of what we know about Indian astronomy comes from the Sanskrit sacred books called the Vedas and this tour through India will offer something to delight the amateur astronomer and the professional – as well as delighting and appealing to anyone who wants to discover the real India in an authentic and dynamically different way.
Hot Air Balloon over Jaipur
Jaipur,'the Pink City' is a step back in time. Be mesmerized as you drift slowly over the area surrounding the spectacular Amber Fort. Absorb the unique colours and sounds and as they blend beautifully with the historical forts and hidden palaces nestled amongst the Aravali Ranges. Capture a privileged view of the Rajasthani villages and the smiles of the friendly local people gazing up at you.
Dawn or Dusk - this will be spectacular!
Search for the tigers
While a jeep safari is a practical way to cover big areas, there's nothing more evocative than searching for tigers on elephant back. This can be done in Kanha National Park and also at Corbett Tiger Reserve. Corbett Tiger Reserve set beautifully in the foothills of mighty Himalayas, it is spread over in the area of 1200 square km. Ranthambhore National Park is another lovely park to view tigers. Comprising 1334 sq km of wild jungle scrub hemmed in by rocky ridges, at its centre is the 10th-century Ranthambhore Fort. Scattered around the fort are ancient temples and mosques, hunting pavilions, crocodile-filled lakes and vine-covered chhatris (burial tombs).
Stay in a traditional Indian Palace
Little can truly prepare you for the sumptuous majesty of staying in an Indian Palace – and there are lots to choose from. Each one offers a fascinating window into India's immense historical and cultural diversity, from the haunting remains of the erstwhile Hindu Empire at Hampi to the many grand royal residences of the maharajas dotted throughout the state of Rajasthan. One of our favourites is the 39-suite Devi Garh, a short drive north of Udaipur. With gorgeous views of the Aravalli hills, this 18th-century hilltop palace, with its blend of traditional architecture and restrained Mughal-chic interiors, has won many fans.
Celebrate an Indian Festival
Whether it is the colourful festival of Holi, the incredible Pushkar Camel Festival, Holi festival or whether you want to celebrate Diwali in India, there is no doubt that the festivals will captivate, enthral and delight you.
