General travel Information
Passport & Visa: To enter Mozambique, you’ll need a passport that is valid for at least 6 months from your date of arrival and have at least 3 un-stamped passport pages. You also must carry your vaccination records that show that you have been vaccinated for yellow fever. Tourist visas are also required for everyone except citizens of South Africa, Swaziland, Tanzania, Malawi, Mauritius, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Botswana. You must get a tourist visa in advance from the Mozambique embassy or consulate in your home country.
Time Zone: Mozambique’s time zone is Central Africa Time (CAT), which is Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) + 2 hours.
Language: Mozambique’s official language is Portuguese; however many people in major cities also speak English.
Currency & Banks: Mozambique’s currency is Meticais (MTn) and you can exchange currency at banks, international airports, and currency exchange stations inside Mozambique. South African Rands, US Dollars, and Euros are accepted in many tourist locations. Traveller’s cheques can only be changed at Standard Bank. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted in major tourist establishments. All major towns have ATMs. Be sure to tell your bank and credit card company you are travelling to Mozambique.
Electricity: Electricity in Mozambique is 220 volts at a frequency of 50 hertz. You will need a Type C or Type F electrical adapter.
